Desert Swirl started during a welding class at the Mesa Arts Center, experimenting with cold steel to see how far I could coax it into shape.
◆ The Curves: I hand-bent the steel into broad, sweeping lines inspired by the shapes and patterns of the desert.
◆ The Weight: Heavy industrial punchouts became part of the composition, adding contrast and visual balance.
◆ The Finish: I kept the steel's natural rusted character, giving the piece the sun-worn look of something shaped by the Arizona landscape.
The result is a grounded, sculptural piece that combines strong curves, industrial weight, and the raw character of weathered steel.
