Madame Orbit was the piece where I realized the best compositions don’t always start with a plan — sometimes they happen when completely unrelated materials suddenly belong together.
◆ The Foundation: Two long pieces of raw steel became the strong base, backed with a strip of leftover metal mesh for contrast and texture.
◆ The Original Piece: The salvaged wall art already had its layered rings, spiraled discs, and metallic spheres — I kept most of that composition intact.
◆ The Transformation: I altered one section and reworked the finish to give the metal a more aged, weathered character before welding it to the raw-steel base.
What I love most is the contrast: heavy, dark steel below and layered circles, spirals, and metallic details rising above it. From different angles, you notice something new.
For me, Madame Orbit became more than another sculpture. It was the piece that made me trust my instincts.
