“Raw steel from a scrap bin meets glass I made by hand.”
Molten Geometry brings together two materials that couldn’t feel more different — heavy industrial steel and delicate studio glass.
◆ The Steel: Three heavy square steel frames came straight from the scrap bin at a local metal shop. I angled and welded them together, then anchored the composition to a solid industrial base.
◆ The Detail: I cut apart a vintage cast-iron candleholder and used sections of its decorative metalwork to frame the glass.
◆ The Glass: The colorful flowers were made by me in the hot shop at the Mesa Arts Center, then incorporated directly into the steel structure.
The contrast is what makes this piece: rough, geometric metal surrounding smooth, colorful glass. When natural light catches the glass, the colors really come alive.
