Balance in Motion started with a heavy iron fireplace-screen holder I found in a Denver antique shop — a piece originally built to stay firmly planted beside the hearth.
I kept that solid weight exactly where it belonged, then used it as the anchor for something completely different above.
◆ The Foundation: I welded the heavy iron holder onto a raw steel plate, creating a rock-solid stationary base.
◆ The Lines: Long pieces of scrap steel were hand-bent into sweeping, flexible forms rising from the base.
◆ The Motion: Antique circular steel plates were welded to the ends. The slender steel flexes gently with airflow, allowing the upper composition to sway while the heavy base remains firmly grounded.
